Specific Learning Disorder
Specific learning disorders are neurodevelopmental conditions that impede the ability to learn or use specific academic skills in at least one of three major areas: reading (i.e. dyslexia), written expression (i.e. dysgraphia), and/or math (i.e. dyscalculia). The learning difficulties must have persisted for at least 6 months despite the provision of extra help or targeted instruction; and affected academic skills are substantially and quantifiably below those expected for age and intellectual ability.

A neuropsychological learning assessment is very useful for not only diagnosing SLD, but also provide a deeper insight into why a child is having certain difficulties and what intervention can be used to address their difficulties.

A comprehensive learning disorder assessment consists of 3 components:

-
Initial consult (1 hour) - here we will take a detailed history and discuss your concerns.

-
A comprehensive assessment- includes evaluation of IQ and academic functioning, as well as the option of attention, processing speed, executive function, learning and memory. The assessment takes 2-3 hours and can be split into multiple sessions if needed. As part of this stage, Cassie will gather collateral information from teachers.

-
The comprehensive (or summary) report will be written following your assessment and provided to the client 2 weeks post assessment. It is also recommended clients attend a feedback session (1 hour) to discuss the results and recommendations detailed in the report.
